Talekai

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

Talekai is an interactive story app operated by NOVOR PINNACLE STREAM LTD, a company registered in Nigeria with its registered office in Abuja, Nigeria(“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described here. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your display name, email address and how you sign in (email and password, passkey, Apple or Google). Guest accounts have no email.
  • Birth date. We ask for it when you start, to confirm you are 18 or older. We do not use it for anything else.
  • Preferences. Favorite shelves and genres, default intensity and whether you allow Intense stories, story language, scene length and reading settings.
  • Your stories. Each story’s setup (genre, style, tropes, intensity, your premise, and your hero’s name, pronouns and role), the scenes written for you, the choices you pick and the actions you type, chapter notes and story state (such as stats and relationships), reading progress and ratings.
  • Taste profile. Weights for the shelves, genres, tropes and styles you read, built from what you do in the app. See Your taste profile below.
  • Kai chats. What you write to Kai and what Kai suggests.
  • Reports. The scene or Kai message you report, your reason and any note.
  • Purchases. Subscription status, products bought, transaction identifiers, expiry dates and your scene balance. Apple handles payment; we never receive your card details.
  • Usage and technical records. Which features you use, records of each story generation (the model used, token counts, cost, timing and whether it succeeded), device and app information, crash reports, approximate location inferred from your IP address, and masked session replays when analytics are on. Story text and anything you type are masked in replays.

Why we use it

  • To write your stories and Kai’s suggestions, and to keep your library across devices.
  • To personalize Home and Kai’s suggestions with your taste profile.
  • To check your age, apply your intensity setting and enforce our content rules.
  • To manage your scenes, subscription and purchases.
  • To review reports, keep the service safe and prevent abuse.
  • To find slow, failing or low-quality stories and improve them.
  • To answer you when you contact us.

Your taste profile

To personalize Home and Kai’s suggestions, Talekai builds a taste profile from your reading activity: the shelves you pick when you start, the genres, tropes and styles of the stories you start, finish and rate, and the kinds of choices you pick in them. It is a set of weights that fade slowly over time, not a copy of your stories. We use it to choose your featured stories and the Picked for you shelf, to order your shelves and suggestions on Home, and to help Kai suggest stories you will like.

Your taste profile is first-party: only Talekai builds it, on our own servers, from what you do in Talekai. We never sell it, and we do not use it for advertising. Kai’s requests to our AI providers include a short summary of it, as described below. If you read as a guest and then sign in, your guest profile is added to your account’s. It is deleted when you delete your account.

Sharing with AI providers

To write a scene, we send the story prompt to an AI model provider. The prompt can include your hero’s name and details, your story setup, the choices you pick, the actions you type, and earlier parts of the story. Kai chats are sent the same way, with a short summary of your taste profile (your top genres, tropes and styles).

Your story text, your choices and what you tell Kai go through our servers (run on Convex) to Anthropic (Claude) and, as a fallback, Google (Gemini), to write scenes and Kai’s replies. Under their API terms, these providers do not use it to train their models. At the end of setup, next to the button that finishes it, the app says “By continuing, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.” By continuing, you agree to this sharing as described in this policy. Without it, Talekai cannot write stories or Kai replies for you.

Inputs and outputs may be screened automatically for safety. Reported content is reviewed by a person.

Who processes your data

  • Convex hosts our database and runs sign-in and sessions.
  • Anthropic and Googleprovide the AI models that write scenes, story titles, chapter notes and Kai’s replies. Requests may go directly to the provider or through the Convex AI Gateway. Google may keep prompts and outputs for up to 55 days to monitor abuse.
  • RevenueCat verifies Apple purchases and subscription status.
  • PostHog processes product analytics, masked session replays and crash reports, when enabled.
  • Expo processes app performance measurements and error reports.
  • Resend delivers account email, such as password resets.
  • Apple and Google verify your identity if you sign in with them.

Each provider receives only what it needs, and we require each to protect your data at least as well as this policy does. Some providers are in the United States and other countries, so your data may be processed outside the country where you live, with safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where the law requires them.

Who at Talekai can see your stories

Authorized staff can view stories, Kai chats and reports to give support, review reported content, keep the service safe and improve story quality. Access is limited to people who need it for those reasons.

How long we keep it

  • Stories, their scenes and chapter notes: until you delete the story from your library or delete your account.
  • Account details, preferences, your taste profile, Kai chats, reports you send and in-app usage records: until you delete your account. Kai chats cannot be deleted one at a time.
  • Generation and cost records (the model, token counts, cost, timing and errors, not the story text): until you delete your account.
  • Analytics, session replays and crash reports held by PostHog and Expo: for the retention periods those services apply, after which they delete them.
  • Purchase records: as long as needed for tax and accounting law. We keep an anonymous record of redeemed scene packs so the same purchase cannot be credited twice.

Deleting your account in Settings signs you out on every device right away, then permanently removes your profile, taste profile, stories, chats, reports, preferences, usage and generation records from our database shortly afterward. Providers may keep limited records for the periods their own terms and the law require. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the UK and EU GDPR, you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. Where we rely on your consent, such as sharing story text with AI providers or analytics, you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us or by deleting your account in Settings. Without consent to share story text with AI providers, Talekai cannot write new stories for you. We rely on our contract with you to run the service, on our legitimate interests for safety and improvement, and on consent where the law requires it. Email contact@novor.dev to use your rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Age

Talekai is for adults 18 and over, and stories and Kai chats need a birth date showing you are 18 or older. If the birth date you enter shows you are under 18, the app stops at that step and does not send the birth date to us. An account made before that step stays until it is deleted, with no birth date and no stories: a guest account has no email, and an account made with email, Apple or Google keeps that name and email. Delete my data on that screen deletes the account and its data right away, or you can email us and we will delete it. If we learn in any other way that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete the account and its data.

Business transfers

If Talekai is acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new owner under the promises in this policy. We will tell you before that happens.

Changes

We will post any change here and update the date above. For significant changes, we will also tell you in the app.
