Talekai writes fiction that can be dark, romantic, violent or frightening, because readers love those genres. These are the rules that keep it fiction, and what happens when something goes wrong.

Written with AI, and we say so

Every scene in Talekai is written by an AI model as you play. Kai, the guide that suggests stories, is also an AI. We say so in our Terms, our Privacy Policy and here. Talekai never claims to be a human author or a real person.

Adults only

Talekai is rated 18+. After you sign in or continue as a guest, the app asks for your birth date during setup, and our servers start a story or a Kai chat only for a profile with a birth date showing you are 18 or older.

If the birth date shows you are under 18, the app stops at that step and stays on that screen. It does not send the birth date to us, and the account cannot start stories or Kai chats. A guest account stays anonymous, with no email and no story data. An account made with email, Apple or Google keeps the name and email it was made with until it is deleted. Tap Delete my data on that screen to delete the account and its data right away, or email contact@novor.dev and we will delete it. If we learn in any other way that an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it and delete its data.

You choose the intensity

Every story has an intensity level. You choose it for each story when you set the story up, and Settings holds the default for new stories, so you can lower it for the next story you start. Once a story begins, its level stays the same, with one exception: if you turn Intense off in Settings, an Intense story continues at Standard from its next scene.

  • Gentle. Danger and romance without detail: a kiss at most, fights told by their outcome, no on-page deaths, no profanity.
  • Standard (the default). Action with weight, passionate kisses, scares and character deaths told briefly, and moderate language in dialogue.
  • Intense (opt in). Brutal combat described in short, plain terms, body horror in brief bursts, strong language, and mature themes such as addiction or trauma, handled seriously. You turn it on yourself in Settings.

Romance always fades to black. Stories can build to a closed door, then pick up afterward with what the characters feel. Some genres, and any story with a character under 18, keep romance at Gentle no matter the setting.

Hard lines

No setting unlocks these. Talekai will not write:

  • Anything sexual or romantic involving a character under 18, or a character of unclear age.
  • Explicit sexual content of any kind.
  • Sexual violence, incest or bestiality.
  • Sexual or romantic content about real people, or content that defames them.
  • Methods of self-harm or suicide, or anything that glamorizes them.
  • Working instructions for weapons, explosives, drugs, poisons or hacking, even inside a story.
  • Hate against real groups of people, or glorification of real terrorist groups and attacks.
  • Copies of existing books, webtoons, games or their characters.

Every scene is written under these rules. When a story drifts toward a hard line, or you type an action that would cross one, the story steers away inside the fiction: the attempt fails or is interrupted, and you get new choices. It does not lecture you or step out of the story. If the writer still cannot write the scene, the app asks you to pick a different action or idea, and that attempt does not use a scene.

Reporting

Every scene has a Report this sceneoption with a reason: sexual content, violence, hateful content, self-harm, the safety of a minor, poor quality, or something else. Kai’s messages can be reported the same way. You can add a note. Reports go to a review queue that a person checks, usually within 48 hours. We use reports to fix story rules, remove content and, when needed, suspend accounts. You can also email contact@novor.dev.

Crisis and self-harm protocol

Characters in a story may grieve, struggle and recover. But if what you type suggests that you, the reader, are thinking about suicide or self-harm, Talekai stops the story. Instead of the next scene, it shows a short, caring message outside the story with ways to get help right away:

  • In the United States: call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline).
  • Anywhere else: find a free, confidential helpline at findahelpline.com.
  • If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

The story does not continue the self-harm thread. Talekai is not a counselor or a substitute for professional help, and AI stories and chats may not suit everyone, especially people going through a hard time. If something in a story upset you, you can stop reading, report the scene, delete the story from your library, or start your next story at a lower intensity.
